Hi all,
law stopped by the Strother location today and found that there have been some site changes. There is a new security fence that continues the line of the General Electric fence over to the new hanger. There is a vehicle gate in the center of the fence as it crosses the access road but it is just barely wide enough for a car trailer. It's no wider that the gate leading into my own back yard. Obviously the gate is intended to be quickly locked in the event of another 9-11 incident but there was no padlock and no sign that anyone has ever actually locked it. I think that it's mostly just for show at present.
This doesn't change much for us but it may alter where we park the timing trailer just a little bit. The main thing is to not get spooked when you see this new and very narrow gate. Especially for folks pulling trailers, WE DON'T WANT TO HIT THE NEW FENCE OR GATE so slow to a crawl and double-check your mirrors as you ease slowly through the gate! If Lawrence can make it through the gate with the timing trailer on Saturday then everyone should be able to.
Also of note, I saw a LearJet out on the runway. It was stopped and there were two or three men standing around it. I got the idea that maybe they were working on it or something. Anyway, it is likely that this airplane is the one that belongs inside the new hanger. I suggest that the paddock and grid be set up with the thought that the LearJet may suddenly appear and require immediate access either going to or coming from its hanger.
Hope to see you there!
Enjoy,
Greg Laws
