It was the sig to an e-mail I saw from Brian Meyer some while back that said:
1. Never borrow a car you can't afford to fix.
2. Never race a car you can't afford to walk away from.

All seems rather moot, since neither insurance company is likely to pay. (My own policy's exclusion language is for "speed contests" regardless of surface or location.) Some companies might even exclude the parked cars on the basis that they were present, and thus "participating" in this [sarcasm] dastardly and irresponsible activity [/sarcasm].
I would hope that tossing the keys to a "friend" would involve some trust between the two parties. Likewise if I were the borrower, I would assume responsibility for any damages and drive the car accordingly.
