[Wichita-SCCA] Paging Rocky

Jim--

I visited recently with Steve Snyder, Salina Director of Parks & Recreation about that very thing.

FYI for those wondering what Jim's talking about -- after our huge December ice storm, our solo site became the repository for broken tree limbs. Envision a 4-6 foot tall pile of broken branches 100 feet wide and 1/4 mile long!

What Snyder tells me: Right now it is tied up in FEMA-complicated contract BS or it would be gone already. They pretty much know who's going to get the contract and they pretty much know what that company is going to do once they get the "go" order. E.g., it'll be gone in a week and the site cleaned up (cleanup by the private company or the city TBD but one of them will). The assurances I got were solid enough I felt confident to go forward with publicizing our opening March 29-30 weekend -- test & tune Saturday and autocross Sunday with our Formula SAE Challenge event.

And a lot of the branches around the city have yet to be picked up! Although it's not normally a Parks & Rec responsibility, that department's workers were dragooned into helping with the citywide cleanup and was assigned the south third of the city. The south third is mostly done! The rest of the city still has branches all over two months later!

  Rocky;
  I know you changes your email address, I forgot to load it.  Anyway;

  I was in Salina this morning and drove over to the Markley site. I saw Abner's blip about it in you newsletter, but it much worse than I expected. It is going to take a lot of truck loads to clean up the site. Do you know what the City's plan is?

  Jim Harrison
