Hi all,
I was able to cancel the porta-potty so no charge to the club.
It turned out that there were two problems with Strother Field this weekend. One was the aforementioned company whatever-it-was at the General Electric plant but the other was that the field is expecting a number of people to fly in for the Walnut Valley Festival (aka Bluegrass) in Winfield. That event officially starts on next Friday but unofficially the party(s) is already up and running. The campgrounds are full and the music from the various jam sessions can already be heard.
In any case, Strother Field is expecting our concrete playground to be populated with tied-down private airplanes all this week and into the next along with numerous comings and goings by private airplanes.
The reason why we've never run into this problem before is simple. Always before the Solo Nationals were scheduled on the third weekend in September just as the Walnut Valley Festival was. We have never scheduled a regional solo event to conflict with Nationals so we never had cause to know that this private airplane stuff was going on at Strother Field during this portion of September. It wasn't until Hawker-Beechcraft went missing that we found the conflict.
Shawn McGrew called back this afternoon to apologize for the necessity but the field is officially not available to the SCCA this Sunday.
