Additionally, I feel that the rough and decaying Beech lot is no longer a
safe driving surface and I fear someone in a high CG car is going to catch a
sidewall on a rough spot and flip.
It would most likely be one of those Corvairs...They rollover parked in the
garage.
I've only been to one autox this year. I can't say that I'm attending out of
the region events, it's not that exciting. I have just been busy getting
caught up on some house projects. I've also been busy prepping my car for the
national Corvair convention in Detroit this July (yes, there are lots of us
crazies out there). I'll be participating in my first track event at Waterford
Hills. BTW I'm also looking forward to touring GM show car collection at their
Heritage Center.
To get back on the subject....A few rhetorical questions...What is the REAL
damage? How many members are going to the conflicting events? 5? Is that a
significant financial impact? Does it impact the fun the participants are having
at either event?
I think the bigger concern should be the status of the current venues. As
Kevin as mentioned, the Beech is really getting bad despite the improvement to
the trench. GHP is very large but the surface there was also developing some
pretty large cracks. That may be moot after the casino/slot machine vote in
Aug. Strother isn't too bad, especially since the patches. I like the drive
down there and usually get to make plenty of runs.
I really hope that Greg can get the pad built. My guess is that funding will
be the biggest hang up. There are some creative ways to get that done
though. Seems like Lake Afton might be a good place to build it. That would be a
fantastic asset for the region.
