[Wichita-SCCA] Opinions

I'm loyal to my region, but I have taken a few blows to the chin about skipping a local event, when people don't realize my two motivations.

One motivation is it is always my goal to travel to at least one new event every year. It's the adventurer in me. For instance, I went to Motorsports Mile in Hastings, NE at the same time as our last event on 4/22. The Nebraska event only happens once this year and I'm very glad I went, despite the 540 mile drive that weekend, a night in a hotel, and car problems that almost ruined my weekend. There was plenty of good bonding time with my daughter, some sight seeing, a new state checked off our list, the fun of going on a road trip with fellow member Matt Miller, and the experience of an autox on a pristine race track.

My other motivation for traveling outside our region is my son who is very involved with engineering and the world class FSAE program at KU. I will be frequenting Salina, HPT and KC more often so I can spend some "fast" quality time with my son and the rest of the Jayhawk Motorsports team. Three years from now my son will be finished with school and move on to his dream job in motorsports. That is when I will again be more rooted in my own region, unless Jared sends me free F1 tickets...and airfare...and lodging. ;^)

I also have made a personal decision to not run my car at Beech anymore. That is my decision and it is based upon the fact that I don't want to damage my car and tires on the rough lot, especially with my very limited Autox budget. I actually don't mind the sand, because that takes a different driving skill that I happen to enjoy. Additionally, I feel that the rough and decaying Beech lot is no longer a safe driving surface and I fear someone in a high CG car is going to catch a sidewall on a rough spot and flip.

So now you all know my 2 cents and if I am not at one of our events you can probably figure why.

P.S. If the plan Greg alluded to of building a solo pad in our area is actually hatched, you can bet I will support it as much as possible.
