[Wichita-SCCA] Jan makes a TV appearance

Local TV and media beg for stuff like this. But you have to go to them.
I have seen success stories work for Regions all cross the country with
TV, radio, and newspapers by simply one member of the region (in my
region, it was me...) simply placing a phone call to the Sports
department and saying "Hey, we got this car deal and you need to send a
reporter and camera on Sunday...".
Plus the good thing is to do like Jan did and arrange a ride for the
reporter. We not did it for the reporter, but for the camera person as
well to ride with the camera in the rear seat of a 4 door while the
reporter was giving "play-byplay" in the car. It worked real well. That
coverage begat a longer story in the local paper, and that begat another
TV station coming out to give a look at the next event. So the exposure
can actually create more from other sources strictly because competition
drives the beast like anything else. And creates more viewers/readers.
All safety precautions were observed (granted we took a liberty here
with three people in the car, but all were helmeted and the Safety
Steward and Event Chairperson were all aware of what was going on and we
made sure they had input to the idea. If either of them vetoed it for
any reason, the ride was off), and we instructed the driver not to do a
10/10ths run, but you don't need to for the crew and the reporter to get
what they need.
Plus, in many cases, some of the media people have cars similar to ours
and don't realize that they can play too. Regions have gained one or two
members from that industry by exposing them to Solo. Having a friendly
media person in your Region is never a bad thing.

Has anyone ever mentioned this to any local stations? They aren't just
cruising around with their news vans on Sundays looking for random
stories you know.
Might want to wait for the WGP event though......

That was actually a pretty good story. Well done by the reporter,
except for the Elise-ah reference. I could have done without the intro
reporter referencing "The Fast and the Furious" as an analogy, and it
would have been nice to mention that all of the people that come out to
drive, also help work the course. Other than that, this is a good video
to show to potential members, and even potential autocross sites and
financial sponsors. The fact that it generates news coverage, and could
potentially get that same coverage (if KAKE news saw this broadcast)
here in Wichita, could be a deciding factor for some.

"National Sports Car Club"...... "Lotus Elise-ah"..... I hate the media.
