[Wichita-SCCA] What to cry?

Such accidents make the remaining exotics that much more valuable to collectors/speculators and that much less available for someone who wants to actually use them for what they were intended. It ultimately ends up where the surviving sister cars become locked down and never driven, never experienced because they become too valuable to drive or, even worse, the destroyed exotic was unique and is now forever gone.

One part of me mourns the loss of greatness in a smashed exotic but another other part of me is glad that the car was being experienced right up to the end. I know that this is a romantic notion but I feel that the body of a car as displayed in a museum is only a pale impression of what that car really is. To me the car only becomes available to be fully appreciated for what it is when the engine comes to life and the wheels begin to roll. The joy of such an exquisite creation lies in the interaction between man and machine when both are at full song.

Only a lucky few will ever drive such cars and even fewer will experience them at the 10/10ths level but the fact that they were created is enough to satisfy me. Their fate is to bloom and then die. Whether that death comes slowly in a speculator's storage room or quickly against a wall at speed make no difference. Either way, they die when they are not available to be experienced again. The important thing is that they once incited passion, excitement, and appreciation. The rest is legend.

Enjoy,
Greg Laws
