Hi all,
Ron Williams designed a terrific course! If was fast, fun, and challenging in both directions. The weather let us know that Summer was officially here now with overcast sun on Saturday and full sun on Sunday -- my accessory outside temp gauge in the tow van read 108 degrees mid-afternoon Sunday! More to the point however, it was DRY! No rain, not even a drop.
I managed (barely) to win FSP but took only modest joy in the outcome because this event brought home the fact that significantly more horsepower will be needed if the Phrog is to be nationally competitive. Climbing the hills in the KC asphalt bowl showed who had power and who didn't. Rocky Entriken drove the Phrog in SM and so I got to watch the Phrog from the outside as it climbed the hill and, especially on the 2nd day, the difference was obvious. Other cars in class were accelerating much more quickly up the hill.
The car is handling exceptionally well, the brakes are great, and even my driving has occasional moments of "not bad". The one remaining problem is that I need an additional 20 hp or more to bring me up to par with the big boys in FSP. Changes to the induction system might help a great deal in that regard so the Phog won't come out again until I have installed a completely new induction. Part of the new system is already sitting under my work bench at home.
The Mid-Div Championship tee-shirts are black and it features stencil-style graphics of various competition solo cars belonging to Midwest Division solo drivers. It is just super neat! This is the 40th year for the series and so this is a special tee-shirt that I'm going to hang onto. This one is a keeper. The shirt was designed by Mrs. Vern Maxey and features Vern's Lynx B "Darth Vee" formula car (natch!) along with Run VerMulm's awesome Camaro and Dave Whitworth's monster Mustang, both in CP and -- of course -- both are series co-sponsors with RS Racing and SPS Solo Performance respectively. Rocky Entriken's Spitfire and Ron William's Mini Cooper S adorn the shirt's back and there is also a shifter kart with the number 17 on it but I haven't been able to identify that graphic so far. Please respond to the list if you know who the mystery karter is.
One final note, I stayed and picked up my trophy and I also picked up several others. We did rather well overall. I have the following trophies in my possession:
Kelly Duty 1st
Art Martinez 3rd
Jeff Dodd 2nd
Dave Green 1st
Enjoy,
Greg Laws
