If there is one word that best describes the Evolution Performance Driving Schools at Salina in April, that word is "transition." If you were ever considering an Evolution School, this is the time to do it. Prices are going up, but because we had begun this process before the sale we are able to hold the line on price for one more time. The cost is $230.
As you may be aware.... One, Jean Kinser has sold the Evolution school to a group that includes past SCCA National Solo Champions Mike "Junior" Johnson, Pat Salerno, Tim Aro and others. And Two, Rob Pickrell has stepped aside as chair of the Evo schools hosted by Salina Region SCCA; I'm picking it up from here. The upshot is that we're all winging it right now, trying to figure out what we have, what we're going to do with it, and to some extent re-inventing this wheel in the middle of the run.
The new owners have all been instructors in the past, all former SCCA National Champions. The school is an intense day-long instruction on a 1:1 student teacher ratio. It WILL make you a better autocross driver no matter what you drive.
Pickrell has stepped aside because he has been very busy with the sale of his local tire store to a larger tire franchise, and that new owner has prevailed upon him to stay on board as manager which ends up somehow demanding even more of his time than before. As a result he hasn't done that much with the school this year, and as a result of that we haven't filled up any one of the schools.
Salina Region has put on an Evolution School in April every year for several years now and is committed to continuing. There WILL be Evo Schools this year. Exactly what we are not sure yet.
At the moment we have room for....
* Three students in Phase 1, or up to nine more if we bring in a third instructor
* Four students in Phase 2, or up to 10 more with a third instructor.
* Five more students to add a Challenge school to the mix.
We feel we can commit to a Phase 1 and a Phase 2, so currently we envision a schedule of doing the Phase 1 on Saturday April 21, the Phase 2 on Sunday April 22. THIS IS NOT LOCKED IN. Things could change. If we get enough students to do a Challenge, we'd probably go to a Friday-Sunday schedule.
(Salina Region also has a regular solo event going on both Saturday and Sunday that you can compete in if you're not doing that day's school -- but the school keeps students very busy so we don't recommend trying to do both the school and the event the same day).
Sign-up is simple. On a blank sheet of paper write your name, mailing address, phone numbers (tell me if home/work/cell), e-mail, and the class/make/model of the car you expect to bring. Send it with $150 initial payment to me. The final $80 is due March 15. Make checks payable to Salina Region SCCA.
My mailing address is 2731 Scott, Salina, Ks. 67401.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
