[Wichita-SCCA] CONGRATULATIONS to Wichita Region!

Greg and Members of the Wichita Region (and Rocky),

 

Congratulations to Wichita Region for what I have always thought were
one of the best communication efforts of any of our 112 Regions.

 

Greg, you are correct. We revamped the program this year to make it all
encompassing as one Region Communications Award and the region was
judged across the board. Since Rocky seems to have liked it, I guess we
did OK then! 

 

The judging was structured so that glitz and glitter counted for very
little, and information and communication about Regional and SCCA
activities was paramount. I was worried that the results would not bear
this out, and I was pleasantly surprised to find my fears were
unfounded. The results speak for themselves. Many regions spend big
budgets on some very slick publications and glitzy websites, yet they
simply don't effectively get the word out. Wichita proved not only can a
region create easy to read publications and well designed media (print
and electronic); a region can be extremely effective at communicating to
its membership.

 

Big budgets don't necessarily mean great communications. Kind of like
the driver with tons of money in the car, but not the talent to drive it
well. Give me a great driver in mediocre car any day... (Please don't
take this to meant that Wichita is mediocre in any sense of the word, it
was just an illustration!).

This is a tremendous accomplishment!  I believe that it might be the
first 1st place ever for our region in this area, or any area so judged
at the national convention.  If I'm reading Rocky's note correctly it
appears that this was a single award that covered ALL regions regardless
of size.  That makes it even more significant!  I hope that besides the
well-earned bragging rights and the national trophy shared by these
gentlemen that we in the region might find a way to show our gratitude
to Guy, Robert, and Paul in a more personal way.  I imagine that
National probably gave out just one trophy but there are at least three
major contributors to this overall success so perhaps the budget would
stretch to provide duplicate trophies to all???

		SCCA has combined what used to be newsletter and website
awards into one Region Communications recognition.

		 

		Word out of the SCCA Convention: 1st - Wichita Region!

		 

		(2nd Indianapolis, 3rd Oregon, HM Florida & Reno)

		 

		What that recognizes is Wichita has both a kickass
website and a solid and informative Witches Wail. 

		 

		I've been preaching for a few years that a region needs
both -- websites do not replace newsletters, websites supplement them.
Wichita Region just proved it.

		 

		Excellent job by both editor and webmaster. WTG!
