It was a great event Guy and had a good time, I was wanting to stay around
longer but the heat finally overcame me. Thanks to O'Reilly's for sponsoring
our local efforts, we really appreciate that!! And thanks to everyone who
helped to host.

Lawrence

Subject: [Wichita-SCCA] My first solo...

Well, maybe not my first solo, but definitely my first time hosting an
event. It feels kinda good not being an Event Chair virgin anymore.
Oh, and my acne cleared up because of that, too, so that's a bonus.

Sunday's Solo at Greyhound Park was a pretty good event. We used Paul
Sherman's design from a month ago as a jumping off point, and tried to
create a fast and fun course. I believe that through a committee
process, we did achieve just that.

At 6:00am, when we started setting up, we could tell it was going to be
a scorcher. The conditions were on the warm side, with plenty of water
and sunscreen to go around. The highest car temperature gauge I heard
was 104, and I believe it was Mark Hill that touched his tire
temperature gauge to the ground to get a reading of 140 on the asphalt.

We ended up having 75 entries, and unfortunately had a few
disqualifications because people didn't work their heats. I know this
will come as a surprise, but Dave Green ended up having the FTD in the
non-cart times. I will post the results in a few hours.

I have a LOT of people to thank.
-Jason Whitted, and O'Reilly's Autoparts, for the really nice trophies
and swag, and their support for the club.
-Jason Rogers was my Co-Chair, and I don't think I could have even tried
this without someone to share the blame. Jason helped all day long,
with everything that needed to be done. You need to have a buddy help,
because there are so many things to do when you chair an event. :)
-Marcus Hidvegi, who not only towed the trailer, but was also in the
parking lot asleep when I got to the site. He worked very hard all day,
helping with course design, and everything.
-Mike Herrick also arrived very early, and was a HUGE help with course
design and setup.
-Paul Sherman was the official Safety Steward, and was crucial in making
the course safe, as well as still fun.
-Tom Dupler came, and quietly set up the timing and scoring equipment.
-Lu Geis was registrar, and on top of her doing her normal stellar job,
had to give out O'Reilly's swag as well.
-Dave Geis helped with set up and safety all day long.
-Dave Guilliams helped set up Timing and Scoring as well as sticking
around all day to keep it flowing.
-Dave Green, for helping me find the better lines, and for letting me
drive his car again.
-Brian Meyer, for helping with the course flow as well.
-Dave Gird, for entertaining us with a Cadillac CTS-v, and because he
was the only other Dave G I didn't thank.

And to all the other people that I may have forgotten in my delirious
state, thank you, thank you, thank you.
