[Wichita-SCCA] Heartland Park Announces Road CourseConfigurationChanges

After reading the statement from Mr.” Track Owner Guy” about the reason
for the change being to try to “address two problem areas where cars
would frequently leave the course and bring debris back on the track
surface” I’ll say “I’m sure glad that the SSC and My PDX car have
windshield washers”.

I’ve never driven the long course at HPT however, after watching most of
the sessions of the runoffs from the bleachers at turn one and, watching
many in car videos, I’ll say that turn 2 does need some help. If you
watch the speed channel broadcast of the runoffs you will see every run
group, every lap, at least one car going off at the outside of 2.

Turn 9 IS a big “off” area, just look at this month’s Sportscar, top of
page 100, you will see “Mr. mid div. hot shoe SSC guy” showing the fast
line and, tossing up a bit of dust. I’d guess that the new turn 8 is
about directly behind old guy’s car in the picture. Mr. Irwin had
installed some very ugly tire blowing, suspension breaking, rumble
strips just about where the Mazda is in the picture but, removed them
after the runoff test session/Trans-Am race. I’d guess he had some input
from the membership. My only other thought is that coming out of 9
you’re looking at a corner station and a concrete wall. Not an issue
with the slow speed from the old course but… I hope they address
something here.

That said, I think I’ll need a ratchet to get the shoulder harnesses
tight enough to take the new 7-8-9 sequence without a lift in the neon
or the Vette.

Dave, I wana race something,,, anything, Gird

P.S. I got a fresh tune on the lawn tractor, ya wana go for Pinks?
