[Wichita-SCCA] Auto-x finish gone wrong

Wow. I'm never going to bitch about a Solo Safety Steward's decision again ... well, almost never .... unless it concerns a course that I designed.

In any case the photos say it all. We tend to become very blasé about cars and course design in part because we trust that everyone competing is good at what they do. T'aint necessarily so as demonstrated here. One should never, ever, ever have a high speed section dumping into a short shutdown that is directly aimed at populated area. I've seen and have competed on courses that were exactly that way. I remember one in another state a few years ago where top-of-2nd-gear cars were aimed directly at the timing trailer with a v-e-r-y short shutdown and then a sharp right turn only a short distance (40 feet?) from the trailer. It was scary. I complained to the event's safety steward at the time but was told to mind my own business.

I hope that in this situation it was only cars banged up without any physical injuries to anyone.
