Wow, I hope he is not related to anyone in the club or a personal friend. I
always think it is best NOT to get personal about issues like this. It
should always be kept to the facts and how to resolve them.

That's good to know. Thanks. I guess we'll just conclude that HPT's lawyer
is a self-righteous idiot.

Unfortunately, that means he supplies his client with advice that earns his
client the scorn of his client's customers.

Actually, my understanding is that the SCCA did try to help, providing
statistics, information about insurance and risks, and all sorts of other
info, but the lawyer representing HPT was not swayed by any of it.

As a member of the Kansas region, I am pleased with the amount of support we
did get from the main office (we did ask for help), and find no fault in the
way they handled their part.

I was just about to launch into a three paragraph emotionally charged
rant but that's just a waste of time, so we'll skip it and get right to
the point.

Why doesn't the SCCA get involved in the these sort of cases? Insurance
companies, lawyers and track owners seem to be using statistics as an
excuse to extract more money from us, their customers. Why can't SCCA
offer counter statistics to help protect their customers (also us) from
these unnecessary charges? Other "clubs" get involved to shape policy
and protect their members interests (NRA, SEMA, etc.).

In the last few years several people I know have abandoned autocrossing
and taken up kart racing. There are several reasons for this not the
least of which are the lack of sites and the increasing cost. Is the
SCCA ready to let the sport of Autox die because they feel like it's up
to the membership to save it? Ok, so now I'm ranting but hey I just
paid $50 for my yearly dues and I guess I'd like to hear more than
"members are the SCCA" and "this is a regional/HPT issue".

disclaimers:
1. People from KS region, I know it's a done deal and any whining or
arguing at this point won't change a thing. This note isn't about
HPT/KS, it's about SCCA helping out the little guy against "The Man".
2. Mike, I appreciate the work you and the rest of the national staff
already do for all of us.
