[Wichita-SCCA] Action!

The Enduro was a blast!  Cudos to event chairman and course designer Kevin 
Anderson.  I don't have official figures but I think that the total turnout 
was between 24 to 28 despite the cold, overcast, and very windy day.  How 
cold?  I was the starter for the first heat (of two) and I lost feeling in 
all fingers, both hands well before my shift was over.  The wind died down a 
bit for the second heat so things became much more bearable.  I really had a 
ball with the Phrog.  It is totally together now, I'm driving better than 
ever, and the Nationals are only 10 days away.  Whoooeeee!

We ended with everyone taking two runs of four laps each, which was plenty 
in that weather.  The busy course kept one hopping but even the big cars 
seemed to do well with it.  The Phrog's time was 163.?? seconds I think. 
There were probably several others with a quicker time.

We started the day with almost a full page of coverage in the local ACTION! 
newspaper magazine courtesy of Sydney Bland of the Ark City 
Traveler/Winfield Courier staff.  She is the ACTION! editor and reportedly 
drives a BMW M3 so clearly she is "one of us".  I'm not sure if it was the 
weather, or competition from the Walnut Valley Festival (Bluegrass) this 
weekend, or that car guys in south central Kansas just don't read at that 
well but I don't think that we saw any actual response from the article in 
terms of additional spectators or entrants.  It wasn't for lack of coverage 
however, and for that we owe Sydney a BIG round of applause.

I'm sorry that more didn't come to this special event.  The extended track 
time was of great value to me and the course was quick & smooth.  It was the 
perfect setup for Nationals.  Those who went to KC or Salina missed 
something special at Strother Field.  Did I mention that it was blast to 
drive?
