[Wichita-SCCA] Street Prepared on the street

As someone who owns a couple of "street" cars, I have to comment. Most
of the Street Touring cars are street-driven, even at the National
level, although there isn't a lot of room inside a Civic for the two
sets of race tires that most people run. Even a lot of SP cars are
street driven and are only trailered to distant events because they
don't have things like air-conditioning.

The Protege is competitive (if not on the National-level) in STS and
with appropriate tires, in FSP. And it's Julie's daily-driver, complete
with air-conditioning and power windows. And the Civic is just a bit
stiff (the big problem with its street-ability right now is that tires
were never balanced).

Most of the discomfort of driving these "street" cars has to do with
the tires. Azenis, Hoosiers, or the Kumhos all ride a bit stiff.

IIRC, the class name originated at a time when the cars were still
street legal (sans cats). The laws have changed, but the class rules
have not.

As for the "next generation" "Street" classes, I think even SM requires
retention of the Cats, correct? I know a lot of these get trailered at
the national level, but locally, there are many ST-daily drivers.

This goes around every so often. I do not "think" Greg really cares one
way or the other. Us old time SP guys say, leave our name alone! :-). It
is just a preparation level.
