[Wichita-SCCA] Strother concrete repair Aug 12-13th update

Hi all,

Yes, it's hot -- very hot. I'm prepared to pull the plug if it's going to be in or near the 100s on that weekend. There's no point in pushing ourselves into medical problems when we could probably reschedule for sometime in the fall if necessary.

Having said that, I am making first call for volunteers for August 12-13 at Strother Field to break-up, dig-out, and remove concrete from as many of the broken slab corners as possible. We had a great bunch of guys volunteer for duty last time and it went extremely well. I'm sure that we'll do as well this time too. Reply to me at GLaws at cox.net or 620-221-0122.

There will be a change in equipment. The jackhammers will go away. In their place we will have two skid loaders, commonly known as Bobcats. One will have a jack hammer attachment and the other will have the normal bucket. The plan will be to break out areas wide enough for the bucket of the skid loader to fit into. Picks & shovels will be needed for edge work and clean-up of the holes of course but the bulk of the broken concrete will be handled by the two skid loaders.

The Strother Field Authority will pay the equipment bills as before but there is a problem that will have to be overcome to pull this off. The problem is that the rental place in Winfield has only one skid loader and it comes with a bucket. We will have to locate a second skid loader with jack hammer attachment and also will have to arrange transportation of this unit down to Strother for the weekend, and again to take it back home Monday morning.

I would personally appreciate it if any of you could come up with the solution to this problem. If you locate a skid loader with jack hammer attachment or if you can provide transportation then call me at 620-221-0122 or email back to me at GLaws at cox.,net Remember to reply directly to me because hitting the normal "reply" button will reply to the entire list. Please note that bobcats are heavy and that a 3/4 ton truck would likely be required to tow it down. My only access to such a truck might be from my brother-in-law if he gets back from Colorado in time and if he would lend the truck to me even then. He might but I can't guarantee it right now.

Be sure to check out the area that we did last time when you come down to Strother to run the solo this Sunday!

Enjoy,
Greg Laws
