I spent the day at the Performance Racing Industry show in Orlando. Metal
Improvement Co., who has allowed me to work for them for 21 years, sent me
to visit with customers and look for new opportunities. Tough job, but
someone has to do it. I spent eight hours touring the booths and made it to
about 80% of them including getting to talk to Howard Duncan at the SCCA
booth and getting a $600 discount coupon from the Skip Barber Driving
School, need $3,000 more for those wondering what to get me for X-mas.
Looking at Booth Babes is fun and the car stuff is interesting. Not much C-3
Corvette stuff though. Got Dave Green a cool brochure from Tomei who assured
me they could make that Talon, a Z06 killer. Saw a Honda Indy V-8 engine
that might fit in Brian M's Civic, (that would kick some CSP bottoms).
Talked to a MSD Engineer about how my Vette is set up, he thought it sounded
perfect, (D. Green and I knew that from a day at the Dyno) Yes Dave, he
agreed that the vacuum advance is not needed. I got a cool T-shirt from GM
performance parts, they had a new LS7 (505hp Z06 motor) for sale. Only
$12,000 for the motor and $1,800 for the controller, (think SM2).
There is everything there from dirt track suspensions, someone needs to look
at their shocks, I think they would work very good on an Auto X car and they
are cheaper than Penski's. I have brochures to several Kart manufacturers
and one form NOPI, the Vette would make a great Drift car with some rear toe
out. Touring the latest in car trailers is cool. If I win the lottery, the
Vette is coming to the next event in a two story trailer with a front living
area. Big screen Plasma TV is included. The best was made by Featherlight
and they will make me a trade!
So suspension stuff, engine stuff, body stuff, the latest in metal
treatments, it was good...except for my feet. When it was over at 6:00pm the
weather turned really bad and we had to wait inside the conference hall till
the rain subsided. Luckily Budweiser was there with a bunch of Bud Babes,
(did I mention Booth Babes?) and they gave away free beer. I have a picture
of me and two Bud Ladies next to ol #8 juniors car. Those girls make that
car look fast!
So I'm flying home to good ol Wichita tomorrow with all the stuff I picked
up. I got Lu Gies a really cool Budweiser necklace with big ol #8's for
X-mas.....sssssh it is a secret. Think she will love it.
Happy Holidays to all;
Jim (If you can't be fast be pretty racing) Harrison
