[Wichita-SCCA] Fw: Another year?

Dang. And I really wanted to go too. :-(
I ran out of time and had to use today to get the Phrog back together. It
has been almost six weeks since the Phrog spun the ring gear on the
differential at Topeka. The design is supposed to be a hard press fit but
years of racing with presumably several times where ring gears were pressed
off & on finally wore everything down to where the ring gear could spin.
Once it spun then the wear was rapid. This was the third failure after the
first two repair attempts failed. The car was built around that Torsen
differential and there were no other options that would allow the Phrog to
continue. This differential unit was the only one existing in the world as
it was a one-off that even the Torsen company can't service. I seriously
thought that the Phrog was dead because I had no clue as to how it could be
repaired and stay repaired.
Amo Carrasco came riding to my rescue. Amo is the co-driver of the big
white Firebird in CP owned by Art Martinez. Amo is Art's brother-in-law.
He is also a tool & die maker of the highest caliber. A master craftsman.
He was able to solve my problem and two other problems that I didn't even
know that I had with that differential so that now the unit is as strong or
stronger than it was when new!
Today was the only day that I had to get the car back together and so I
missed the event. That's the way it goes I guess. The good news is that as
of 5:00 pm today the Phrog was alive, healthy, and ready to go. :-)
Enjoy,
Greg Laws

Hey, you missed a great event @ WGP. Ron Williams/Russell Blume laid out a
nice flowing course. Minimal cones hit. We're thinking that we out to try
and run it in reverse in a couple of weeks.
